I have never experienced something like this! It was JAM-PACKED with people; everyone was happy & festive even though it was super cold!! Little “huts” lined the plaza and were filled with vendors selling all sorts of different wares. There were glistening lights everywhere and different sounds from all of the chatter of conversations to a traditional German Oom-pah band! It was all very exciting to me!!
There were also food and drink “huts” throughout. Vendors sell cheeses, brats, potatoes, and LOADS of sweets. Snack huts were selling popcorn and savory pretzels.
A special drink that is common to German Christmas Markets is Glühwein, which smells absolutely amazing! They sell it in these adorable little boot “mugs” which are traditional mugs of Germany. Glühwein is a mulled wine and is served warm & steamy. It has an interesting flavor that truly feels quite festive! The marketers also sell hot cocoa if you’re not inclined to have an alcoholic beverage.
I was absolutely AMAZED at this little “village” of huts. Like I said, everyone there is so happy to be there and so full of the holiday spirit! After going to this event, the next day Andrew, the kids, and I put up a tree at Sugar Fix- we were so full of the spirit!
If you have a free couple of hours, you should absolutely head down to the Daley Plaza for this AWESOME event! There are loads of parking garages all around, but we took a taxi! I truly think it’s going to become a holiday tradition, I loved it so much!!
