Hans Christian Andersen said, “To travel is to live.” Oh how true that quote is to my world. I have MASSIVE wanderlust; I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to many parts of this world of ours, and even though I’ve visited 20+ countries, I realize I’ve only scratched the surface of our gorgeous globe.
Reflecting on my travels, I am reminded of where I came from. Born to incredibly hard-working, blue collar parents. Taking yearly holiday to an island in Lake Erie just 2 hours from home. Going to Disney World 3 times throughout my childhood. Driving 3 hours to Detroit to visit family. Those were my travel memories growing up. I positively LOVED every minute of my childhood travel adventures and I wouldn’t trade those memories for anything.
As a newlywed, my husband and I traveled to Jamaica for our honeymoon. This was pre-9/11, so we didn’t even need passports! A few years later, I needed to secure my first passport so that I could accompany my husband on a business trip to France. My brain was on overload there- trying to take in every sight, sound, smell, and facet of the culture. An impossible task, as I’ve been back to France 3 more times since then, and still haven’t fully grasped it all!
In 2011, my family & I had the awesome experience of becoming ex-pats! We moved to Zürich, Switzerland for 3 of the best years of my life! We truly became fully engrossed in Swiss life & it was amazing. We soon discovered that our location made travel to other countries extremely easy & so we truly hit the ground running! Weekend trips to neighboring countries was the norm for us (Italy, Germany, Austria, even Spain) and then longer trips when the kids were on breaks from school to Denmark, Sweden, Russia, Sicily, Malta, Croatia, England, Greece, Finland, Turkey, Estonia- all INCREDIBLE travel experiences!
There are 196 countries in the world. Like I said, I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface! Within my own native country- AMERICA- there is still SO MUCH for me to see! And I can’t wait! I honestly cannot wait to see every nook & cranny that I possibly can of this great world! I want to see & experience it all! To me, travel is the only that costs quite a lot of money, but really makes you so much more rich!
